Investigation shows Oregon taxpayers pay for union activities

SALEM - In 2009, Oregonian taxpayers paid $152,317 for Service Employees International Union activities, according to records provided by the State Controllers Division at the request of Oregon Politico.

State workers represented by SEIU are given paid time-off for certain union activities. This time amounted to a total of 6,706.17 hours in 2009.

As agreed upon by the State and SEIU in their collective bargaining agreement, union employees are given paid time-off to conduct union business. Such activities can include committee attendance, meetings, investigating and processing grievances, arbitration, new employee orientation and distributing information.

Of the four categories of SEIU State paid time-off, two appeared to be general categories inclusive of several different types of activities. These two categories, “miscellaneous” and “paid per cba,” accounted for 86% of the cost. A third category, “grievance,” accounted for most of the remaining 14%.

Transparency Note: In an effort to simultaneously inform and involve citizens I have included documentation of my efforts to obtain public records from the government. A request to waive fees in the name of public interest was not granted, citing a test that the request was not in the public interest.

Er………..What if the taxpayers just refuse to pay and move out of state? Atlas has Shrugged, and it’s time for this commie lib Democrat BS to stop.

SEIUI cries out for a RICO investigation, which will not happen under Eric Holder. The first step for saving America must be his removal from office.

  3. Wayne Lannen says:

This another example of unions being payed by Oregonians to do absolutely nothing for their wages! So paying them to attend union meetings is considered acceptable to the state? How is that considered fair? How does the state justify this? Is it because the of the state employees union? Would you consider this to be the catalyst of failure?
