TIGARD- The advocacy group Tualatin Riverkeepers held their Annual Legislative Kayak Race on Thursday afternoon, bringing in local politicians from across the Portland metro area.
Participants included State Representatives Margaret Doherty and Matt Wingard, as well as several Metro council members, county commissioners, mayors, and various political candidates seeking office this fall.
The race ended with Rep. Matt Wingard and his kayaking partner, Cascade Policy Institute’s Vice President Todd Wynn, pulling across the finish line first, followed closely by Metro Council Member Rex Burkholder.
Tualatin Riverkeepers’ Executive Director, Monica Smiley, saw the event as an opportunity to draw attention to the river in the community and to expand public access for the Tualatin River Canoe Trail.
